From a dialect of the Maya in southwestern Guatemala, Q'uux is K'iche for Musgo is Spanish for Moss. “Spanish Moss”—a nod to the long beards of the conquistadors that crawled onto the swamps—has borne witness to slaughter and freedom, perched atop hundred-year-old oaks. Stories rattle as the Gulf winds blow.
